lydia deetz auditions announced

While the hit musical adaptation of Tim Burton’s beloved film “Beetlejuice” continues to delight audiences worldwide, producers Crossroads Live and Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures have announced an open audition for the leading role of Lydia Deetz in the upcoming West End production.

The show will enjoy a limited season at the Prince Edward Theatre from May 20, 2026, to April 17, 2027, following the departure of current occupant “MJ The Musical” in February 2025.

London’s Prince Edward Theatre welcomes Beetlejuice for a limited 11-month run beginning May 2026 after MJ concludes its engagement.

The auditions will take place on January 22, 2026, from 10am to 6pm at a central London location. Casting director Harry Blumenau is seeking a female-presenting actor with a playing age of 16-18 years and a maximum height of 5’4” to portray the iconic character.

Actors interested in the role must register via the casting director’s website at www.harryblumenau.com/beetlejuice.

Lydia Deetz is described as a strange and unusual teenager with a dark, smart, and moody personality featuring an anarchist streak and jet-black humor. The character quests for meaning following her mother’s death while living with newly-deceased homeowners and Beetlejuice himself.

The creative team emphasizes that Lydia is always several steps ahead of others, whether living or dead.

The casting team welcomes performers of various appearances and backgrounds to attend the audition, provided they meet the character requirements.

The West End production follows successful runs on Broadway, where the show premiered in 2019 and returned in 2022 after the pandemic.

It has also enjoyed an extensive US tour and international productions, including recent premieres in Melbourne with upcoming transfers to Sydney and Abu Dhabi.

The creative team includes book writers Scott Brown and Anthony King, with music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect.

Tony Award winner Alex Timbers will direct the production, with choreography by Connor Gallagher.

The production will feature the same scenic, costume, and lighting designers from the Broadway production, ensuring a faithful transfer of the show’s unique visual style to London audiences.

The musical is based on the iconic 1988 Tim Burton film that starred Michael Keaton as the mischievous ghost and Winona Ryder as Lydia.

This West End debut marks an important milestone for the musical after its international success in major cities including Tokyo and Seoul.
