london underground christmas eve schedule

Travelers relying on the London Underground this holiday season should prepare for significant service adjustments on Christmas Eve 2025. Transport for London has announced reduced service across the network after 8pm, though there will not be a complete shutdown of services. Instead, trains will finish earlier than usual, with specific lines seeing reductions starting at different times throughout the evening.

Plan for earlier Underground closures on Christmas Eve 2025, with reduced service network-wide after 8pm.

Several lines will begin reduced operations even earlier in the evening. The Lioness, Suffragette, and Windrush lines will see service reductions after 7pm, while the Weaver line will reduce after 7:30pm. The Mildmay line will follow with reductions beginning after 8pm. These adjustments apply only to Christmas Eve, not to other days during the holiday period.

The Elizabeth Line, which operates separately from the core Underground lines, will not run any services after 10:30pm on Christmas Eve. This could impact travelers with late airport connections, so alternative transportation should be arranged. Importantly, there will be no Night Tube service on Christmas Eve, in contrast to the all-night service planned for New Year’s Eve. Regular Wednesday service will be maintained for all TfL services not specifically mentioned in these holiday adjustments.

TfL will completely halt all services on Christmas Day, with no Underground, Elizabeth Line, or other TfL services operating on December 25. This complete network shutdown means travelers will need to rely on taxis, though surge pricing is expected. Similar to the Underground, no National Rail services will operate anywhere in the UK on Christmas Day.

Boxing Day will see the Underground resume with reduced services from 7am. Specific disruptions include no District line service to Kensington Olympia and no Metropolitan line service between Rickmansworth and Amersham/Chesham. The Piccadilly line will not operate between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge.

For those planning travel during the holiday period, TfL advises checking status updates for exact times. The reduced timetable will continue from December 27 to January 4. Passengers should consider using National Express Coaches as an alternative option, especially since they operate services on Christmas Day when no trains are running. Travelers are encouraged to plan journeys carefully, consider alternative stations like Stratford where applicable, and make seat reservations when possible, as late changes to schedules may occur.
