cheeky italian british pizzeria

Pizza lovers in South London have a new destination to mark on their maps as Connie’s Pizzeria prepares to open its doors on January 26 at 133 Queen’s Road in Peckham. Founded by Andrea Asciuti of the acclaimed 081 Pizzeria, this new venture replaces the former South African restaurant Little Kudu and is conveniently located near Queen’s Road Peckham station.

Peckham’s pizza scene expands with Connie’s Pizzeria, Andrea Asciuti’s newest venture opening January 26 near Queen’s Road station.

Asciuti, whose 081 Pizzeria recently ranked 43rd best in Europe by 50 Top Pizza 2024, has named this new establishment after his wife Connie. The restaurant boldly departs from traditional Italian authenticity, embracing what they call a “Bri-talian” fusion concept that combines Italian techniques with distinctly British flavors.

The menu showcases eight varieties of pizza made with 36-48 hour fermented dough using American flour, resulting in light, chewy bases that pass the essential “no-flop” test. Signature options include Tomato and Aubergine Pie, Sautéed Mushrooms with Truffle and Basil, a Classic Margherita featuring British mozzarella, and Nduja with British stracciatella. The pizzas incorporate seasonal British ingredients like leeks, mushrooms, aubergine, and locally sourced meats.

Complementing the pizza selection are hearty side dishes including Meatballs, Deep-fried Mac ‘n’ Cheese, and Mozzarella Sticks. For dessert, diners can indulge in Fiocco di Neve, a soft mini brioche filled with ricotta and whipped cream, providing a sweet Italian-inspired finish to the meal. This creative approach to menu development echoes the improvisational spirit of Chez Panisse, where chefs famously created unique menu items when faced with ingredient shortages.

Early visitors to Connie’s Pizzeria will benefit from a special promotion offering 25% off the entire bill until the end of February. This new opening strengthens Peckham’s growing reputation as a pizza destination, joining Asciuti’s existing 081 Pizzeria locations in Peckham Rye and Shoreditch.

With its unique fusion concept and commitment to quality ingredients, Connie’s Pizzeria aims to satisfy the increasing demand for innovative pizza options in South London while supporting the neighborhood’s walkable dining scene.
