schiaparelli s daring fashion legacy

The Victoria and Albert Museum in London will host an exhibition titled “Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art,” which runs from 21 March to 1 November 2026. This event marks the first UK showcase dedicated to the innovative designer Elsa Schiaparelli.

The exhibition aims to explore the close relationship between fashion and art, highlighting Schiaparelli’s pioneering fashion contributions throughout the 20th century.

Exploring the intersection of fashion and art, the exhibition celebrates Schiaparelli’s groundbreaking contributions to 20th-century design.

Featuring over 200 objects, the “Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art” exhibition will include garments, accessories, and archival materials. Visitors can expect to see significant pieces such as the famous “Skeleton” dress and the striking “Tears” gown.

Curated by Sonnet Stanfill, Lydia Caston, and Rosalind McKever, the exhibition seeks to illuminate Schiaparelli’s radical vision and her role in changing the fashion industry.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the exhibition is Schiaparelli’s collaborations with 20th-century masters like Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso, and Jean Cocteau. These partnerships reflect her unique ability to blend creativity and commerce, which was groundbreaking during her time.

The exhibition will also demonstrate how Schiaparelli’s artistic legacy continues to influence contemporary fashion today. Additionally, visitors to London can explore the nearby London Design Museum, which showcases over 1,000 design objects and highlights the evolution of design.

Under the leadership of current creative director Daniel Roseberry, the Schiaparelli brand continues to push boundaries and innovate in the fashion world.

The exhibition provides a valuable opportunity for visitors to engage with Schiaparelli’s legacy and understand the impact her work has had on modern design.
