As the night sky continues to captivate curious minds across the United Kingdom, planetariums offer visitors the chance to explore cosmic wonders regardless of weather or light pollution.

From January 2026, Planetarium Go UK will bring a new immersive experience to London’s Battersea, featuring a 360-degree dome with high-resolution projections in Power Station Park. Tickets start from £15 and can be booked online now for the temporary installation, which runs until March 1, 2026.

The Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium at the National Space Centre stands as the UK’s largest planetarium. Visitors can enjoy award-winning fulldome shows including “One Step Beyond,” launching July 20, 2025, and “The Great Solar System Adventure,” which guides viewers from Mercury to Pluto. Each show has advisory age limits based on educational content and developmental appropriateness.

Both shows are suitable for children aged five and older, while “Tour of the Night Sky” caters to those eight and above.

In Northern Ireland, the Armagh Observatory and Planetarium serves as Ireland’s leading center for astronomical research and education. The facility spans 20 acres, remains open 24/7 for nature walks and stargazing, and offers various tour options including Gold and Diamond Tours.

Edinburgh’s Dynamic Earth Planetarium provides a unique 90-minute interactive experience from the Big Bang to present day. The center features immersive 360 galleries, a real iceberg, earthquake simulator, and astronomer-led live stargazing shows throughout the year. Dynamic Earth recently appointed Gwilym Gibbons as their new CEO to lead the organization’s future growth initiatives.

Sherwood Observatory Planetarium offers magical shows displaying the night sky regardless of weather conditions. Its wrap-around presentations explore the scale of the cosmos and universal wonders, complemented by exhibitions about observing and listening to space.

The facility hosts open events for stargazing through observatory telescopes but will close from December 24, 2025.

The Royal Observatory Greenwich Planetarium celebrates its 350th anniversary in 2025 with special events including live streams, stargazing sessions, and family activities focusing on astronomical highlights like the Andromeda Galaxy, located 2.5 million light years away. Astronomy enthusiasts visiting in December can enjoy a special overview of the winter celestial features as highlighted in recent observatory updates.
