welsh restaurant opens london

A new café named Bara is set to open in Peckham, South London, on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2026, bringing a taste of Welsh cuisine to the area. This café aims to spotlight underrepresented Welsh food, which has not been widely available in London.

Founders Cecily Dalladay and Zo Heimann are committed to showcasing traditional dishes that highlight quality Welsh ingredients. The menu will feature unique offerings such as Pembrokeshire lobster rolls, Caerphilly cheesesteaks, and brown crab rarebit, allowing patrons to experience authentic Welsh flavors.

Bara aspires to be more than just a café; it seeks to become a culinary haven within the vibrant Peckham food scene. The founders have a vision of engaging with the local community through various initiatives. One notable program is the chefs-in-residency scheme, which will invite talented chefs to collaborate and create diverse dishes that celebrate Welsh cuisine. This approach not only enriches the menu but also fosters a sense of community around food.

In addition to culinary initiatives, Bara will establish partnerships with local food banks to help those in need. This commitment to community engagement reflects the café’s desire to create a positive impact in Peckham.

Moreover, an entry-to-work scheme will be implemented to provide job opportunities for marginalized groups, promoting inclusion and diversity within the workforce.

To celebrate its grand opening, Bara will host a free tasting event for the public on St Dwynwen’s Day, January 24, 2026. This event will be an opportunity for locals to sample the café’s offerings and learn more about Welsh culinary traditions.

With its unique approach to Welsh food and dedication to community involvement, Bara promises to be a significant addition to the South London food scene, inviting everyone to explore the rich flavors of Wales.
