unique guinness pub experiences

As the new Guinness Harp Guide 2026 makes its debut, London emerges as a stronghold for exceptional stout experiences with nine pubs earning prestigious recognition.

These establishments, representing about 25% of the national selections, have received brass harp plaques for their excellence in pouring, service, atmosphere, and dedication to the craft of Guinness.

The Guide has identified notable venues across London’s diverse neighborhoods. West London boasts prestigious locations including The Audley Public House in Mayfair, The Fox & Pheasant in Chelsea, Bricklayers Arms in Putney, The Devonshire in Piccadilly, and the premium Guinea Grill in Mayfair.

Central London features legendary establishments like The Toucan on Carlisle Street in Soho, known for its authentic Irish atmosphere. The area also houses multiple Coach & Horses locations, with branches on Wellington Street and Greek Street offering consistent quality and lively environments for after-work drinks. The Coach and Horses on Wellington Street offers a genuine pub experience with impressive deli sandwiches that perfectly complement their top-tier Guinness.

North London contributes several standout venues to the list. The Auld Shillelagh in Stoke Newington has built a strong reputation for perfect pours. Howl At The Moon on City Road combines sports viewing with casual dining, while Sheephaven Bay in Camden maintains old-school Guinness traditions in a proper Irish setting. The Faltering Fullback in Finsbury Park offers a cozy atmosphere when not packed during match days.

South London’s Irish havens include Skehans Freehouse in Nunhead, Mc & Sons at London Bridge, The Dog & Bell in Deptford with its distinctive red exterior, and Telegraph Hill’s Knave of Clubs, which features live music alongside expertly poured stout.

Each recognized establishment demonstrates unique characteristics while maintaining the core standards required by Guinness. The Cow in Notting Hill pairs stout with crab taglioni and oysters, while Gibney’s beneath Daffodil Mulligan’s restaurant offers a sleek modern environment opening at 4 PM weekdays.

The inaugural Guinness Harp Guide establishes a new benchmark for pubs serving the iconic Irish stout, focusing not just on pour quality but on the complete pub experience. The initiative aims to significantly drive footfall to these exceptional venues while educating consumers about what makes a quality pint.

These London establishments demonstrate that proper Guinness service remains an art form worth celebrating.
