award winning local eateries

As the 2025 Mayor of Lewisham Business Awards breaks records for participation, the borough’s thriving food scene takes center stage with several independent eateries capturing top honors. The prestigious awards showcase how local businesses drive economic growth across ten diverse categories, with public voting running from September 9 to October 13, 2025.

Among the standout winners, Le Delice earned the title of Best Café for its authentic French boulangerie experience. The family-inspired establishment welcomes customers with fresh-baked sourdough, tea, and cakes that create a homely atmosphere reminiscent of a personal kitchen. Their approach resonates with locals seeking comfort and quality in equal measure.

For those craving more substantial fare, Babur claimed the Best Restaurant award. This Forest Hill gem offers gourmet Indian cuisine in a contemporary dining room adorned with modern art. The event highlights culinary excellence in various categories, similar to the acclaimed 22nd annual Lewisham Awards hosted at Auckland’s Viaduct Events Centre. Often referred to as the “Dishoom of South East London,” Babur showcases the innovation and culinary talent flourishing in Lewisham’s restaurant sector.

The Fox and Firkin secured the Best Bar or Pub category, establishing itself as a hub for live underground music. With an extended beer garden and two local food vendors on site, this pro-LGBTQ+ venue actively supports the borough’s diverse community while contributing to Lewisham’s vibrant nighttime economy. The awards program aims to uplift community standards by recognizing establishments that foster collaboration and innovation.

Good Food took home the Best Sustainable Business award, operating as a modern grocery store that prioritizes local, organic, and artisan foods. This social enterprise, crowd-funded by over 350 local residents and businesses, promotes a diverse community through healthy, sustainable, and affordable local food options.

The award ceremony, scheduled for November 2025 at Catford’s Broadway Theatre, will feature hosts Robbie Gee and Eddie Nestor MBE alongside performances by D&B Academy, Troy the magician, and violinist Rebekah Reid. The event is expected to draw over 450 attendees, a significant increase from the previous year’s ceremony.

Winners receive certificates, permission to use the awards logo, and valuable promotion through council channels, increasing visibility for these local culinary treasures.
