idris elba wax figure

A remarkably lifelike wax figure of Idris Elba has been disclosed at Madame Tussauds London, marking the actor’s first appearance at the famous Baker Street attraction. The figure, disclosed on December 19, 2025, depicts Elba in a monochrome blue Eve of Winston suit matching the outfit he wore during his meeting with King Charles in July 2024.

The wax doppelgänger stands in the museum’s Awards Party zone alongside other contemporary stars like Gillian Anderson and Timothée Chalamet. The figure wears patent Christian Louboutin dress shoes, which were donated to the museum by Elba himself, adding an authentic touch to the display. Visitors can also enjoy interactive features that enhance the experience, such as dressing up and game-show setups.

Creation of the waxwork was a collaborative process that reportedly took “a couple of years” from concept to completion. Elba participated actively in the development, describing the experience as similar to preparing for a movie role. The process involved multiple measurements, sittings, and detailed reference-gathering by Madame Tussauds’ specialist sculptors and technicians. Elba’s involvement was considered invaluable by the museum’s general manager Steve Blackburn who expressed that it was a privilege to create the actor’s first waxwork figure.

Creating this figure was like prepping for a film – a years-long collaboration of measurements, sittings, and meticulous craftsmanship.

Upon seeing his wax twin, Elba described the experience as “surreal” and “amazing,” calling it “truly an honour” to be recognized in this way. He noted that the figure gives him a sense that “a part of me is always at home” in London, even when his work takes him elsewhere.

The figure celebrates Elba’s impressive career spanning acclaimed television roles in shows like “Luther” and “The Wire,” as well as numerous feature films. Madame Tussauds’ general manager called creating Elba’s figure a “privilege” and praised the actor’s involvement in the process.

The museum highlighted the significance of including Elba, a London-born actor who achieved international success from his Hackney origins. The placement in the Awards Party zone is designed to attract both local visitors and international tourists interested in contemporary film and television icons, further cementing Elba’s status as a cultural icon. The waxwork honors not just his acting accomplishments but also his dedication to community projects in Hackney where he promotes initiatives addressing knife crime and supporting African arts.
