killer stage horror experience

A terrifying theatrical experience has arrived in London’s West End with the stage adaptation of “Paranormal Activity.” Following its world premiere in Leeds and successful North American tour, this spine-chilling production begins its limited run at the Ambassadors Theatre on December 5, 2025.

The show presents an original story inspired by the iconic film series that began in 2007. Unlike the movies, this stage version follows James and Lou, a couple relocating from Chicago to London, with strange occurrences soon haunting their new home. The central premise remains true to the franchise: it’s not places that are haunted, but people.

Written by Levi Holloway and directed by Felix Barrett, Artistic Director of Punchdrunk, the production features a two-level house set designed by Fly David. The detailed set includes a kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom, allowing audiences to witness the supernatural activity unfold throughout the home. The production strongly advises an age recommendation of 15+ due to the intense nature of the content.

Sound designer Gareth Fry creates an eerie atmosphere while Anna Watson’s lighting shifts from warm to cold as paranormal events escalate. Audiences will be mesmerized by the jaw-dropping illusions crafted by Chris Fisher that leave viewers questioning what they just witnessed.

The cast features Patrick Heusinger as James and Melissa James as Lou, with supporting performances from Ronan Raferty, Pippa Winslow as Carolanne, and Jackie Morrison as Etheline Cotgrave. Together, they bring to life a story that builds tension through unexplained occurrences, particularly in the upstairs bedroom and bathroom.

Technical elements include moments of complete darkness, integrated illusions, and external lighting that simulates a busy street outside the home. While the thin plot narrative has been noted by some reviewers, the production’s immersive horror elements more than compensate for any storytelling shortcomings. Critics have awarded the production five stars, describing it as “the best stage horror ever seen,” praising how it effectively transfers the film atmosphere to live theater.

Performances run Monday through Saturday at 8pm, with additional 3pm shows Thursday through Saturday until March 28, 2026. With a runtime of two hours including interval, tickets start at £25.

For the full effect of this chilling theatrical experience, viewers are recommended to choose seats that offer a clear view of both levels of the haunted house set.
