British Airways has announced a new seasonal non-stop service connecting St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR), beginning April 19, 2026. The announcement, made on October 1, 2025, marks the first direct connection between St. Louis and the United Kingdom in over two decades, making St. Louis the 27th U.S. destination in British Airways‘ network.
The service will operate four times weekly using Boeing 787-8 aircraft, with flights taking approximately eight hours. Travelers should plan to arrive at the airport 3 hours before their scheduled flight to ensure smooth check-in and security processing. The new service replaces the historical gap since American Airlines discontinued London Gatwick service in October 2003. The seasonal route will run through October 24, 2026, and is coordinated with American Airlines through their Atlantic Joint Business partnership. This timing aligns with the 100th anniversary of Route 66 in 2026 and provides access to FIFA World Cup games in Kansas City.
Economic projections estimate the new route will generate between $50 million and $100 million annually for the St. Louis metro area. The connection supports business, tourism, and convention traffic while strengthening St. Louis as a gateway for international visitors during the Route 66 centennial celebrations.
Travelers will gain direct access to London attractions such as Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and Buckingham Palace, along with neighborhoods like Borough Market and Notting Hill. In return, British visitors can experience St. Louis’s live music venues, sports, and barbecue culture.
Special booking deals include vacation packages valid from April 19 to May 21, 2026, and July 4 to October 24, 2026. The vacation sale runs from January 6 to January 22, 2026, with return flights from London to St. Louis starting at £482 in May 2026. Passengers can take advantage of a special offer with $100 savings on bookings made before October 8, 2025. The standard British Airways Original Sale continues until January 27, 2026.
This route forms part of British Airways’ wider transatlantic expansion for summer 2026, which includes restored double-daily service to Miami and increased frequencies to Las Vegas, San Diego, and Austin. For St. Louis, the connection represents a significant development, making it the second nonstop European option alongside Lufthansa’s Frankfurt service established in 2022, positioning the region as a truly global destination.
