London’s vibrant food scene continues to embrace plant-based dining, with the city maintaining its crown as the world’s most vegan-friendly metropolis for the fourth year running. According to HappyCow’s 2025 rankings, London now boasts over 3,600 vegan-friendly establishments, with 154 fully vegan restaurants in the central area alone. This represents a 12% increase in plant-based eateries since the previous report, demonstrating the capital’s growing appetite for cruelty-free cuisine.
London’s plant-based scene flourishes as the city retains its global vegan crown for a fourth consecutive year.
The new addition to London’s impressive vegan landscape aims to stand alongside established favorites like Mildred’s, which offers globally-inspired dishes, and Gauthier Soho, one of the few vegan restaurants with Michelin-starred status. Beyond restaurants, London has cultivated a thriving ecosystem with over 285 vegan businesses including cafés, caterers, and specialized shops. The success of London’s vegan scene is supported by a community-driven platform that connects 1.2 million registered members to vegan establishments worldwide. Visitors to London can already enjoy Swedish cuisine at DAUNS, authentic Italian pizza at Purezza Camden, or comfort food at the popular Temple of Seitan in Camden.
What sets London apart from other vegan-friendly cities is not just quantity but quality and diversity. Black Cat has built a loyal following with its generous portions of comfort food, while Coven of Witches has become known for exceptional sandwiches and pickles. Essential Vegan delivers authentic Brazilian flavors through dishes like feijoada and innovative pão de queijo waffles. The city recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of HappyCow alongside receiving its top ranking status.
The growth in London’s vegan dining scene reflects broader UK trends, with the vegan population increasing from 0.25% to 4% in just a few years. Nearly a quarter of Britons now consume plant-based milk, and vegan meal consumption increased by 46% between 2019 and 2020. Major retailers like Tesco reported a 300% increase in vegan meat sales by 2020.
Despite challenges including low profit margins, high costs for ethical ingredients, and increased competition, London’s vegan community continues to thrive. While other vegan hotspots like Los Angeles have experienced declines, with a 22% drop to 50 fully vegan restaurants, London maintains its leading position.
The city’s continued dominance suggests that its newest vegan venture enters a mature market where plant-based dining has become firmly established in the culinary mainstream.
