welsh cuisine arrives south london

A new culinary destination is set to open in Peckham, South London, on February 14, 2026. Bara, a café dedicated to Welsh food and produce, promises to introduce unique dishes that highlight underrepresented Welsh culinary traditions. The founders of Bara, Cecily Dalladay, a competitor from Masterchef: The Professionals, and Zo Heimann, who previously served as head chef at Pique Cafe, are committed to showcasing high-quality ingredients sourced from Welsh suppliers.

The menu at Bara will feature an array of dishes, including Pembrokeshire lobster rolls and Caerphilly cheesesteaks, which aim to bring authentic Welsh flavors to the local community. In addition to these offerings, the café plans to delight visitors with Welsh honey butter pancakes, providing a diverse selection for both locals and visitors. This innovative approach seeks to engage the community by fostering appreciation for Welsh culture through its cuisine.

Bara aims to establish a strong connection with the Peckham community by implementing various initiatives. The café will introduce chefs-in-residency schedules, allowing local culinary talents to showcase their skills and creativity. Additionally, partnerships with local food banks will guarantee that the café contributes positively to the community, providing support to those in need.

An entry-to-work scheme will also be available for marginalized groups, creating job opportunities and promoting inclusivity within the culinary industry.

Before the official opening, a free tasting event will take place on St Dwynwen’s Day, January 24, 2026. This event will allow the public to sample dishes such as Caerphilly cheesesteaks and vegan focaccias, providing a preview of the café’s offerings.

Through these efforts, Bara aims to not only celebrate Welsh food but also to create a welcoming environment that prioritizes community engagement and support. This new café may well become a favored spot for those enthusiastic to explore the rich flavors of Welsh culinary heritage in South London.
