revamped ronnie scott s venue

After undergoing its most significant transformation since 2005, the legendary Ronnie Scott’s jazz club is set to reveal a new 140-capacity space called Upstairs at Ronnie’s on Friday, February 6, 2026.

Located on the first floor above the main club, this venue marks the first use of the space since its closure for revamping earlier in 2024, representing a bold response to the UK’s live music venue crisis.

The revitalized space above Ronnie Scott’s stands as a defiant statement against the widespread erosion of live music venues across Britain.

The purpose-built auditorium features enhanced acoustics, high-specification Yamaha and D&B Audio systems, and a Yamaha S3X grand piano. The reimagined space combines cutting-edge sound and bold design elements to create an immersive musical experience. Visitors will enjoy plush interiors with dark wood and fancy upholstery, while a state-of-the-art kitchen overseen by executive chef Steven Connolly will serve patrons.

Opening night showcases the Dana Masters Duo from 5pm to 8:45pm, followed by Viva Cuba Late Late Show from 11:15pm onward. The venue’s programming extends beyond traditional jazz to include soul, funk, gospel, and classical music.

Beginning February 10, a monthly Late Late Show hosted by Tomorrow’s Warriors will spotlight rising stars, while Wednesdays will feature a Vocal Jazz Jam hosted by Natalie Williams, Emma Smith, and Georgia Cecile.

A notable addition is the Classical Series, occurring weekly on Mondays with early and late sessions at 6:30pm and 9:30pm. Curated by violinist Lizzie Ball and pianist James Pearson, the series will reimagine orchestral favorites for chamber ensemble, including works by Gershwin, Rachmaninov, Vaughan Williams, and Mozart. The seven-piece ensemble known as Ronnie Scott’s Classical All Stars will perform these reimagined classics with energy and flair. The series will also feature special events highlighting diversity-focused ensembles throughout the year.

The venue’s backstage areas have been transformed into The Greene Rooms, a members’ lounge and artist space named after owner Sally Greene. This area will host gatherings, workshops, and exclusive events throughout the year.

Founded in 1959, Ronnie Scott’s defines UK jazz and maintains its status as the country’s leading independent jazz venue.

This expansion comes as a response to challenging times for live music, with 16% of grassroots venues closing in 2023 and over 40% operating at a loss, reinforcing the club’s commitment to nurturing live music in London.
