new italian restaurant opens

A new Italian restaurant named Tortello is set to open at the Royal Lancaster London hotel in early January 2026, bringing trattoria-style dining to the edge of Hyde Park. The 80-cover restaurant will offer diners views of the Italian Gardens through large windows, creating a seamless connection between the dining experience and the park’s landscape.

Tortello will be accessible through both the hotel interior and a dedicated entrance on Lancaster Terrace, making it convenient for hotel guests and local diners. The interior design features a hand-painted vineyard mural that evokes Italian wine country, while a walkway lined with olive trees and aromatic herbs sets the Mediterranean mood upon arrival. A vintage pistachio-green 1960s Fiat 500 serves as a decorative centerpiece and photo opportunity for guests.

The menu focuses on regional Italian cooking with an emphasis on fresh, hand-rolled pasta. Signature dishes will include tortello di zucca with Delica pumpkin, brown butter, Modena balsamic, and toasted Piedmont hazelnuts. Other notable options include beef shin and Chianti tortello, showcasing slow-cooked meat fillings, and seafood-forward calamarata with langoustine, Scottish clams, Dorset mussels, and king prawns. The restaurant will also serve pici pasta with mussels and cavolo nero, adding a rustic Tuscan flavor profile to the diverse menu. Similar to Tiella Trattoria’s approach, Tortello will emphasize hand-rolled pasta and seasonal produce to create an authentic Italian dining experience.

Tortello will operate seven days a week for both lunch and dinner, catering to hotel guests, business diners, and visitors to Hyde Park. The restaurant’s location makes it suitable for pre-theatre dining and event-related meals due to its proximity to West End venues.

The new eatery joins London’s competitive fresh pasta segment, which includes established names like Padella and newer ventures such as Burro in Covent Garden. Tortello aims to distinguish itself through its unique Hyde Park location and blend of traditional Italian cooking techniques with contemporary presentation. The restaurant’s menu will feature a slow-cooked beef shin ragù as one of its highlighted dishes, promising rich and hearty flavors for diners.

The restaurant’s relaxed yet polished atmosphere aligns with modern hotel-restaurant standards while offering an authentic Italian dining experience in one of London’s most iconic locations.
