brunel university ai degree

Brunel University London is expanding its artificial intelligence education offerings with a new BSc in Artificial Intelligence, delivered jointly with the University of London. The new degree program will cover essential areas including computing principles, mathematics, and programming, building on Brunel’s established expertise in AI education.

Building on established expertise to prepare students for the growing field of artificial intelligence.

This joint initiative complements Brunel’s existing AI-focused programs, which include an MSc in Artificial Intelligence, MSc in Artificial Intelligence Strategy, BSc in Computer Science with an AI specialization, and BEng in Computer Systems Engineering with AI concentration. The new BSc program will be fully accredited, ensuring students receive industry-recognized qualifications.

The curriculum draws from Brunel’s international research in intelligent data analysis, combining theoretical foundations with practical skills. Students will learn Python, R, various machine learning algorithms, deep neural networks, reinforcement learning, and data visualization tools. Assessment methods include programming exercises, written reports, group assignments, and workshops.

Brunel’s current MSc in Artificial Intelligence offers flexible study options, including fully online delivery through FutureLearn and traditional on-campus modes. Students complete core modules in artificial intelligence, deep learning, and ethics, culminating in a 60-credit dissertation. The BSc program is expected to follow a similar structure with an emphasis on project-based learning.

Entry requirements for the new joint BSc program will likely align with Brunel’s existing undergraduate pathways, which specify A-level conditions and vocational equivalencies. Brunel is currently ranked 4th in London for Computer Science according to the Times Higher Education World Rankings 2024. International applicants will need to demonstrate equivalent academic qualifications and English language proficiency according to both universities’ admissions policies.

The program aims to prepare graduates for the growing demand for AI professionals across industries. According to market analyses cited in program materials, AI adoption is rising across sectors, creating strong employment opportunities.

The degree focuses on practical applications, teaching students to design, implement, and evaluate AI solutions across business, scientific, and social domains, while also addressing important ethical and governance considerations. Graduates will be well-positioned for careers as skilled AI professionals who can transform large datasets into actionable insights for various fields. The program’s commitment to hands-on learning will be reinforced through one-third project-based coursework, mirroring Brunel’s successful approach in their existing computer science programs.
